Need a Vacation?

I recently had the pleasure of scheduling a vacation over my birthday - and since Covid-19 ruined my plans last year, I realized it had been nearly 2 years since I had been on an actual vacation! I was definitely feeling the need to get away and unplug, and our trip to Aspen didn’t disappoint.

We hiked through Maroon Bells, one of the most photographed parks in Colorado, and had some relaxed meals in the cozy town of Aspen. It was overcast and rainy for most of our trip, but we still enjoyed ourselves - and yet, we decided to come home a day early.

Wait, what? I thought I NEEDED this vacation??

Fortunately, I had booked some extra days off to relax at home after we returned from Aspen, and it gave me a little time to birth this most recent epiphany: I don’t need to GO anywhere to take a vacation.

Don’t get me wrong, I love to travel and explore new places and have unique adventures! That being said, we all know that “taking a vacation” that involves travel requires planning. Lots of planning. And packing and driving and budgeting and navigating new territory and unloading and packing up to come home and navigating traffic…

In my younger years I wanted to travel everywhere and take vacations in exotic locations, and I felt like I needed to get away in order to find peace and a sense of ease. I felt that traveling on vacation was the only way to get away from my life of dis-ease and find relaxation. Now, as I get older, I’ve come to the realization that it doesn’t have to be this way.
